Dear Community
Supporter,
April 2008
Last year was another busy year for your Volunteer Fire Department
with over 3000 calls for Fire, Rescue, EMS, and Swift Water Rescue
services within and around the Arbutus community. While some days we may
experience only a few calls, there are others that result in 10-15 calls
per day. Overall we average over eight calls per day. We are once again
asking for your financial assistance in order to maintain the level of
service the community has come to expect and deserves.
We recently developed a capital budget which addresses both our building
and apparatus needs over the next several years. Our largest challenge is
the replacement of your heavy duty rescue squad which carries all
types of equipment for rescuing citizens from various types of
entrapment. Your current Squad is 15 years old and while it has served us
well it is beginning to show its age and will need to be replaced with a
newer state-of-the art heavy duty rescue squad. The replacement
squad will cost over $750,000. Additionally, as many of you are also
experiencing, our electric, fuel, and general maintenance costs continue to
climb also.
This is our only direct request to the
community for assistance. This mailing is handled by members of the
department which enables us to receive 100% of your donation. Also, we
do not conduct telephone solicitations. Many corporations also offer
matching donations for employees who donate to charitable organization so
please check with your company’s financial department to see if they
participate in this program.
Please take a few moments and support this fundraiser. If you would like to find out more about the
department, or are interested in joining, please stop by or visit us
online. We also welcome any prospective members to a monthly social at
the firehouse on the first Wednesday of every month at 7 PM.
Thank you for
your continued support of the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department.
Respectfully,
John W. McDowell
